A few weeks ago I shared a post- A Little Girl With Anxiety. I spoke with her in Spanish to help her. She is in 2nd grade. Sometimes she hugs me but she is small so she ends up hugging my leg if I am standing up.
She has figured out my schedule such as when I am in my classroom, next to hers, before she starts class and that I have planning time for the two classes I teach 10:30 to 11:30. Now that she has figured out my schedule, she comes in to say hi to me.
It is so cute. She pops in standing in my room just inside the door. When I greet her in Spanish, she runs over to hug me. I speak with her in Spanish to give her a blessing and wish her to have a good day.
I am glad I can be a safe person for her and my room a safe place for her. One thing I hope to be for the children and for my refugee/immigrant friends is a safe place to land.
I love the song by A Safe Place to Land by Sara Bareilles and John Legend. It expresses what so many people need. We all need a safe place, a person we can trust.
Jesus wants to be that for us. He invited us to come. He said so in Matthew 11:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
