Why We Do Not Give Up As Christians

As Christians there are times we grow weary. There are times life gets us down. There are moments that we just feel like giving up. That is if we are being honest with ourselves. Jesus knows our weakness and sympathizes with us. That is why Paul was inspired to write in 1st Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

The reason for the therefore that begins the verse is what proceeds it. The whole context of 1st Corinthians 15 is the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus defeating death through his resurrection is the reason we know our labor in the Lord is not in vain.

That is why as tempting as it is for me to kind of ride off into the sunset and take it easy, each day when I wake up with chronic pain, I start with prayer asking for help to be a blessing.

Think about your struggles, your biggest problems in life, and then think about Jesus defeating death through his resurrection. Then think about the truth, the fact, that you will be rewarded by Jesus in heaven for your labor in the Lord in this life.

It does not mean the struggles will automatically do away. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won’t. What it means is that we know Jesus is with us in the here and now and in heaven has a place for us and will reward us.
