We had a cold snap here the past few days. We had a little snow and the temperature was below freezing for a few days.
My morning class is comprised of all moms who are learning English in the school where their children attend. Yesterday morning I shared with them that my beard keeps my face warm in the winter. Then I asked if any of them wanted a beard if they could grow one. All of them said NO and were emphatic about NO.
The moms are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. Some came here as refugees from war torn countries. Others came here for economic opportunities for their children. Whatever the reason they are here, learning English is stressful. So I use humor to try to help reduce the stress.
My morning classroom is often filled with laughter. It gives me joy to see my students smile and laugh and enjoy learning.
Did you know that God has a sense of humor?
In Psalm 2 we read:
“The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them”
Psalm 2 is about rulers on earth and people who say there is no God. Think about it from God’s point of view. He created everything there is. Our very lives depend on God providing air, water, land etc. It must be very funny to God when people say he isn’t there or when people say they know better than God.
I love a saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.”
When I read the accounts of Jesus after his resurrection, I see the sense of humor Jesus had. In Luke 24 we can read about Jesus coming to the disciples on the Emmaus Road. They did not recognize him and Jesus played along asking them questions.
Sometimes I think God gets a kick out of watching me try things to serve him such as when I tried to be a wedding coordinator for a family from Ukraine.
Did you know that laughter is from God? It is part of his design for us. Psalm 126 says:
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.
The Lord did a great work for the his people and the result was their mouths were filled with laughter.
There are times that we need to be serious and thoughtful. But there are also time for us to enjoy life, have fun, and yes even laugh.
I hope you experience joy in your life this week.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
Smiles. @ the class experience.
God does love us smiling and in His presence there is joy. Such an aura!.
P.S: I was watching a Christmas movie earlier this week and I said to myself on seeing Santa “Could this be big bro Matt” 😀
You both had same face and kind of beard. 🙈😀
lol
I liked this alot 🙂
Lol. I think God must have a sense of humor dealing with all of us.
Totally little sister 🙂
LOL, and we’re handful aren’t we? 🙃
Yes definitely! Lol
🙂
Amen! I have been praying a lot lately for our family to be filled with joy. So thankful the Lord does that for us! God bless!
Prayed for your family
I love this. It makes me think of my father. He used humor to defuse situations and helped us to gain perspective. Humor is such a gift, and I love that you share it intentionally with your students. ♥
Thank you little sister. I enjoy hearing them laugh and seeing them smile. 🙂
A merry heart is the best when shared ♥
🙂
I wish you were my English teacher! 🙂
): come to my class 🙂
That’s a dream of mine!
You’re welcome any time 😀
Thanks! ❤
I could really use a smile and laugh about English and actually enjoy it!
I can certainly believe that the Lord has a sense of humor 🙂 laughter is certainly from Him
Amen 🤗
I’ve heard that the English language is the hardest and most desired language to learn. Do you think that’s true? I feel blessed to know English because I don’t have the aptitude to learn a foreign language. I’ve tried, but it doesn’t click for me.
English is difficult because it is a mixed language of Latin and Germanic roots. I heard Japanese is the hardest to learn
I did not know why English is hard to learn. Thanks for enlightening me. Since you’re a language person, you’re probably correct about Japanese 😊
Beautiful insight ! The way he makes some of my craziest dreams come true has convinced me that God does have a sense of humour!
🙂
I nominated you for the sunshine blogger award
Laughter is an amazing gift from God. It helps make your heart feel better.
On another note, God definately has a sense of humor for in Genesis 21:6 He reveals it through Sarah when she says,
“……God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.”
How blessed you are to have that gift of humor that keeps on giving and blesses others.
I love the positivity of this post! I’m sure your joy in the Lord is such a blessing to your students in times when they may feel overwhelmed.
Thank you 🤗
I truly believe God had a sense of humor! I can’t tell you the times I have been in conversation/prayer with the Lord and He answered in ways that brought laughter to my day! He wants us to have joy in His Spirit! I’m so glad that we don’t have to be stiff sticks in the mud, but can be joyous! And of course seriousness has its place too! 🙂
Yes both have their places. It seems we want one or the other but not both in the right timing 🙂
Amen to that!
