What Is WordPress Up To Now?

WordPress sent me a message about something new they plan to do called Native Sponsored Posts. This was the message:

“WordPress.com has started testing Native Sponsored Posts. This is an extension of our advertising program and will have the same controls and restrictions as our standard ad placements. You may see these Sponsored Posts running on your sites as we expand testing. They may be promoting WordPress.com content, marketing initiatives, or brands. Longer term, we hope to offer Sponsored Posts to our users as a way to help drive traffic and promote content discovery. For any questions or issues, see our Native Sponsored Posts FAQ.

Long story short unless someone has a paid plan, WordPress plans to impose these ‘Native Posts’ which may even run counter to the bloggers message, values etc.

It is one thing to have ads but sponsored posts and imposing posts by other bloggers? I am not a fan of this idea at all.

What do you think?

If This Was My Last Post- What Would I Say to Other Bloggers

I was watching The Voice last night and one of the Battleground pairings sang a song by Julia Michaels- If The World Was Ending. It got me thinking about that but not in a romantic song way.

I thought about if this was my last post what would I want to say to my fellow bloggers and readers. So here goes.

If this was my last post, these are the things I would want to say.

1st and foremost- Jesus loves you. He gave his life on the cross for you and defeated death for you. Look to him.

2nd- Be yourself as you blog. Let your voice come through in your posts. Don’t worry about trying to be like someone else.

3rd- Give yourself permission to try ideas and see what works for you.

4th- Don’t focus on stats. There are peaks and valleys when it comes to views, likes etc.

5th- Interact, genuinely interact, with other bloggers. Spam type comments turn people off. Also if you mostly comment about the awards type posts, at least for me, it does not seem like genuine interest.

6th- This COVID thing will pass. Don’t look at the circumstances around you. Look to Jesus.

7th- Have fun with blogging 🙂

If you have blogging tips, please leave a comment.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

Q and A with me- My Answers

Last Friday I shared that for the first time ever my blog went over 30,000 views for the year. It was actually just an excuse to do something I have fun doing which is a Q and A.

Here are my answers. I wrote them while sitting in a coffee shop for the first time in 7 months due to COVID. I may have had too much coffee. 🙂

By the way-Notice the Pink Shirt? Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I want all of my followers who are women to see a doctor and get checked. Early detection is key.

Barb of mylifeinourfathersworld.com asked- Would you consider forgoing a haircut for a while so that you could wear a mullet? Seriously, I want to see it!

Mullet- 2 word answer- No Way, Longer hair I have thought about at times though 🙂

AND- Now for a serious question. Do you have a favorite OT book? NT book?

Old Testament I love Isaiah. It was written about 700 years before Jesus came and has amazing details about the promised Messiah all of which Jesus fulfilled. New Testament I love to teach the John.

jlp of gardenfaith.com asked- Do you have a favorite cartoon character?

This will show I am old school. I loved the Roadrunner as a kid.

Herry of herrychiccounsels.com asked-  What was your favorite childhood cartoon character and movie?.
And what was the weirdest thing you have done?.

Childhood was a LONG time ago. I loved the roadrunner cartoon. As a child I loved the movie Mary Poppins.

Weirdest thing? hmm. so many weird things I have done. What to choose? Maybe the time I thought putting cocoa powder on cottage cheese would taste the same as chocolate ice cream. I was wrong 🙂

My sweet daughter Temi of christianmomas.com asked- Based on your blogging experience, is there a time of the day you consider as the best time to publish a post?

I think for each blogger it may differ depending on their audience. I tend to schedule my posts for the morning early enough so my followers in other countries/time zones can read them in the evenings their time and my followers in the USA and Canada can read them in the mornings or afternoons.

One note- if I reblog a post, I usually schedule it for later in the day. That is mostly because I do not want to flood the read section of other bloggers. I tend to not like it when I look at my read section and someone has 7 to 15 post flooding it.

Crissy of livingbyfaithtravel.wordpress.com asked- How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

Pizza. Oh how I miss pizza. I found out I have Celiacs in 2017 so no more pizza 😦 When I used to eat pizza, pineapple was delicious on Hawaiian Pizza 🙂

Brenda of becominghistapestry.com asked- how tall are you?

I am 5′ 10″ so almost a foot taller than you 🙂

Saron of saronsview.wordpress.com asked- What one piece of value advice would you give to your younger self?

Jesus is the answer would be the most important. I would also tell my younger self to study languages because you have an ability for them

Dawn of drawingclosertochrist.com asked- Do you have a favorite author

The Holy Spirit because he inspired the bible 🙂

For other books my all time favs are J. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis 🙂

Bethany of Flowersonthedashboard.com asked- How do you trust God in the calling He has for you?

There are ups and downs for any calling from God. The most important thing is to know God because the better we know God, the more we can trust him in the down times.

Ruelha of ruelhacom.wordpress.com asked- If you could completely erase one event/timeline from your life with absolutely no memory of it, what would it be?

I have thought about what life would be like if I could go back in time and redo some mistakes in my life. But then I think about what Romans 8:28 says:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Even my mistakes and wrong turns in life God used to lead me to the life and ministry I have today. If I were to erase something, I would not want it to alter the course of my life.

Christine of momstronglifecom.wordpress.com asked- How long have you had Celiac disease and what advice would you give to a young one (like my daughter) who is just starting her journey?

I was diagnosed in 2017 but am sure I had it for quite a while. My advice to a young one is that while yes it is not fun to change how we eat, it is worth it because you will feel better and there are fun foods you can still eat. Example- your mom can make gluten free macaroni and cheese by using macaroni made from rice flour.

What is something you love that most people would find odd?

Other people probably think I am odd 🙂 One thing I love to do is go to supermarket just to walk around and greet people in their languages.

Keziah of keziahehome.wordpress.com asked- What is your personal opinion on pain and why do you think humans experience it? And what has most influenced your thinking on this?
(By the way! “The Problem of Pain” by C.S. Lewis is an AMAZING read on this subject!!)

Personally I hate pain but have lived with chronic pain for over 25 years so it is my normal. We experience pain because of the fall when Adam and Eve sinned. We are living in a fallen world where we have pain, disease, death, crime etc. The bible has influenced me the most. The encouraging thing for me is that pain is only in this life, In eternity with Jesus, there will be no pain. 🙂

I would like to thank Barb, see link in how to play, for creating and tagging me for I Love My Job Tag.

Webster defines job as a paid position of regular employment. However, there are many jobs for which we never receive a paycheck (ie. stay-at-home parent, caregiver etc.) So for the purposes of this tag a job is any work that you do on a regular basis. No paycheck is required.

1) Use the “I Love My Job” graphic above.

2) Tag the creator Barb at My Life in Our Father’s World

3) Tell us why you love your job.  I listed 9 but you are free to list as many as you want.

4) Invite your fellow bloggers to participate by tagging them.  There is no minimun/maximum  number of “invites”.

  1. I should say I love my jobs. I have two positions, ESL teacher and Home Missionary. I love both equally.
  2. I love my positions because I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.
  3. I love my positions because they have allow me to travel on 11 international ministry trips.
  4. I love my teaching position because I can mentor and empower my assistants to become instructors. I love my home missionary position because I have been able to empower others in understanding other cultures.
  5. I love my positions because I get to experience other cultures, their foods, their celebrations, etc.
  6. I love my positions because they give me stories to write about.
  7. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to me is I love my positions because they give me opportunities to share the love of Jesus with people from all over the world.

I would like to tag the following and please remember if you are a stay at home mom/homemaker that is a hugely important job.

The Most Important Guest Tag

I would like to thank Purple Rose of reluctantpreachersdaughter.wordpress.com for creating The Most Important Guest Tag and tagging me in it. I love this tag for the creativity and focus on Jesus.

The Most Important Guest Tag

“Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.” ~ Revelation 3:20

Here are the rules:

  1. Thank the person who tagged you and include a link to their post
  2. Link the original post (The Most Important Guest Tag) and give credit to the creator of this tag (Purple Rose) https://reluctantpreachersdaughter.wordpress.com From Purple Rose: “I heard someone talking one day about how people would behave if Jesus showed up at their front door. I thought that would be a good idea for a tag. Good for selfreflection and fun.
  3. Answer the 10 original questions asked by Purple Rose
  4. Tag as many people as you like
  5. Use the original tag image as the FEATURED image on your post:

Here are the questions:

  1. Jesus has shown up unannounced at your front door, how long will it take you to answer the door? I would answer slowly because I do not have visitors, so I would wonder who is at the door. Normally I am out and about most days and only at home in the late evenings.

2. Is there anything you would want to put away or hide before you let Jesus in? Goodness there is so much clutter because I tend to have books and notes in so many places.

3. If Jesus looks for your Bible, where will He find it? Depends which one. My English/Spanish one is on a chair next the my chair at my desk. My NIV is on my desk. etc

4. If Jesus asks you to play the last song you listened to, what song will it be? It would be which ever one in my mix on YouTube was the last one which would be a worship song.

5. If Jesus asks you to put on the last TV show, movie or YouTube video you watched, what will it be? Might be a sports video on YouTube

6. It’s dinner time, what restaurant are you taking Jesus to? I would want to go to a restaurant full of people who do not know Jesus yet.

7. Do you invite anyone to join you for dinner or do you want to have dinner alone with Jesus? I would invite many to come but at a time one hour later so I have one on one time with Jesus. 🙂

8. Jesus has never eaten at the restaurant you are at, what do you recommend He order for dinner? He would know better than to ask my opinion about food. haha 🙂

9. As you are eating dinner, you look toward the entrance and see the one person who has hurt you the most. What do you do? I ask the person to join us.

10. Before Jesus leaves, do you ask to take a picture with Him on your cell phone? Yes for sure

With same questions, I am tagging, if they choose to participate:
