Morning Person or Night Owl?

Morning person or night owl? Which are you? I have to admit as a life long night owl, morning people have always amazed me. For me, morning people are like people from an alternative reality. It is beyond my comprehension and experience how anyone can wake up happy about mornings.

For me, mornings consist of dragging myself out of a wonderful place called bed. The first thing I do is make my way to the kitchen for my first cup of coffee. Then it is sitting down at my computer and listening to worship music as I partake of the magic elixir called coffee. After my second cup, I feel I can attempt to begin my day.

SO you can understand my astonishment when during Blogger Chat yesterday Hannah of Coc-GetFit at hannahmvandi.com shared that she wakes up at 4 am every morning. Furthering my amazement she shared that she does not drink coffee until 10 am. When she said she gets up at 4 am, my first question was WHY. I mean the sun is not even up at 4 am unless you re living in Alaska or Scandinavia in the summer months.

Piling on to my confusion over morning people, Barb of mylifeinourfathersworld.com chimed in that she wakes up at 3:30 am each morning. Really? How can this be possible? I go to sleep at 12 or 12:30.

I found myself in the extreme minority as each person shared how they love mornings and go to sleep at times like 9 pm. I have taught evening classes for over 20 years that do not finish until 9:30 om.

My creative juices do not start flowing until the afternoon or evening. I often write my blog posts around 10 pm. Alicia of forhispurpose.blog pointed out that she sees my posts are published around 4 am. Easily explained. I schedule them for that time because I have followers in different time zones around the world.

I realize for some that Jesus has called them to spend time in prayer at unfathomable hours. For me, the night watch is much better. πŸ˜‰

So my dear readers, I wish to know if I am alone in the universe or are there other sane night owls like me. Perhaps there are two dimensions existing symbiotically for morning people and night owls.

Are you a morning person who wakes up at insane hours or are you a night owl?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I’m glad you wrote this post so that I can find the opportunity to say that I think I am a night owl too. Even though I do have to get up early most days to do the school run and work, I’m much more productive after I’ve had a morning of reflection (not necessarily caffeine). I also write late at night because it’s quieter, and find that my brain tends to get quite creative around that time. My blogs are usually posted after midnight too. I agree that there are two types of people in this world.

  2. Sorry I had to leave yesterday before that discussion. I am definitely a morning person, mostly because I like having my ducks in order before the sun comes up. I also LOVE seeing the sun come up, and at that time my favorite thing to do is sing with Matt Redman – 10,000 Reasons.

  3. My wife is your camp as morning just isn’t her time to shine. Perhaps retirement has intensified her feelings. As for me, I’ve always been a morning person, and retirement hasn’t seemed to slow me down. Mornings are perfectly aligned with coffee, reading, writing, and walking.

  4. I used to be 100 percent night owl but my current job doesn’t permit me that. I have to drag myself out of bed sometimes, if not most. πŸ™ˆ And try to sleep early. 😁

  5. I’m a morning person. I’m typically up around 6:00. I love coffee first thing and my quiet time with the Lord. Once Aaron is out of bed, my quiet time is pretty well over so I cherish my early mornings. πŸ™‚

  6. This post makes me laugh because it was hilarious when you asked β€œwhy”about Hannah waking up at 4!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚….guess it takes all kinds of ideas and preferences to make things interesting!😊

  7. I’m a night owl but lately I’ve been enjoying early morning rising and like Hannah I only take coffee or tea at 10am. I’m still more productive I’m the afternoons towards the nights

  9. Same here- Night Owl all the way! Although I guess to survive in society we have to (sadly) β€˜try’ and be morning people to some extent πŸ₯²

  10. I am neither a night owl nor morning person. I love my bed too much. But recently the Lord is encouraging me to wake up at 5am to pray. I am praying that I can obey the Lord. πŸ™‚Thanks for sharing.

  11. I’m a Morning person!! My coffee is ready when I wake up and I’m happy. The days I don’t work I exercise and do school work.
