Jesus spoke these words to his disciples in John 15.  Imagine that Jesus loves us so  much he calls us friends even though we do not deserve it. He laid down His life for us even though He did not have to and that we did not deserve it. It is my desire to show this love to others. The love of Jesus is sacrificial and unconditional. That is hard to live up to and is something we cannot do in our own power. But He will give us the ability.

We often think we have to show this love in some great way, but what about the thousands of times we can give of ourselves when it is not convenient or easy to do. The times that we can help when there is no chance the person we can help can give back to us. As I interact with refugees I often think about this. They need my help. They cannot pay me for it. They cannot reciprocate. It is often inconvenient. There is a huge payback in it though. When I help my refugee friends, I experience in a small way how it feels to love with the love of Jesus, and then I begin to realize in a small way the love Jesus has for me.
