Living in Nebraska, yes I know for most of you that is in the middle of nowhere 🙂 , I am accustomed to weather changes, sometimes dramatic ones, happening all of the time. In Nebraska yesterday, we had a blizzard in the west, severe thunderstorms in the east, but my city Lincoln was warm and sunny.

So yesterday it was warm enough for me to walk around in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. But I knew a change was coming.

This morning I had to wear a sweatshirt and a coat when I went to have breakfast with friends.

Weather changes here can be sudden and at times unpredictable. This makes me think about life. Sometimes there are positive changes like a new job, getting married, meeting new friends. Sometimes there are changes we don’t want such as the loss of a job, a break up with a loved one, or a sickness. Living with autoimmune to over 20 years I am especially in tune with changes because of being sick.

Life can change in an instant. We have no guarantees about this life. But it makes me think of the one constant that never changes- God. God never changes. Jesus never changes. In the bible it says Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. He is the one constant.

Having been through many ups and downs with autoimmune, something Jesus said gives me a lot of hope. He told his disciples- “In this world you will have many troubles, but take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus is the one constant, He never changes. The world around us can be in chaos. Our lives can change in an instant, but Jesus never changes. He has overcome the world and he wants us to share in that with him. Jesus, the one constant in life, gives me a lot of hope. So for me, when life gets crazy, it is not what do I look to, but who- Jesus.
