Recent weeks have been downtime for me with not much activity with my classes being on break and also due to dealing with autoimmune problems. I have been watching some videos by some vloggers on youtube. Yesterday I shared about Kelsy finding her biological dad after 31 years.

Another vlogger’s story that is amazing is Zoe and her story. The title of her intro video really got my attention, “An Orphan No Longer” so I watched her series. I don’t want to give away her story but it is a powerful one to watch. The video is at the end of my post.

Her story got me to thinking about what Jesus promised his disciples while he was preparing for them what was about to happen before his arrest and crucifixion. In John 14, Jesus promised:

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”

Jesus has promised he will not abandon us. The imagery of orphan is a strong one. When I think of orphans, I think about orphanages I have visited in other countries. I visited two in Romania in the 1990s. One was a state run one that was so sad that had twenty cribs for babies in one room. The other was an AIDS orphanage that was supported by churches from the UK. Even though the kids had HIV and some AIDS, the difference in the love and warmth provided by host parents and volunteers was an obvious contrast.

For most of us it is difficult to think of ourselves as orphans but spiritually speaking every human being is an orphan if they do not have Jesus. It is because of Jesus that God adopts us as his children.

Jesus will not abandon us. He will come to us and is always with us. Whatever circumstance we find ourselves in, Jesus is with us. Fill in the blank with whatever your difficulty is _________________________ and Jesus will come to you and not leave you as an orphan.

Here is Zoe’s introductory video. The series is another one to have Klennex close by when you watch the series. 🙂
