In July 1989 I went to an outdoor Christian concert in a park in a small city near Lincoln. The concert was called LoveFest. While I was listening to a group, I suddenly felt the presence of Jesus around me in a powerful way I had never encountered him like that before. It was so wonderful, but I wondered why it would happen to me because of my past. It left such an impression on me that the next morning I drove out to a lake in my city, Holmes Lake, to spend time with Jesus.

I sat in my car and read John 21 where Jesus asks Peter the same question three times in front of the other disciples. Jesus asked him three times- “Peter do you love me?” Jesus did that to restore Peter in the eyes of his fellow disciples because they knew Peter denied Jesus three times. As I was reading John 21, I was listening to a song by First Call- Lord of All. That song has been so significant in my life and always brings me into the presence of Jesus.

It has been a great adventure since that day with eleven ministry trips to the countries of Brazil, France, Mexico, and Romania. The Lord called me to ministry to the diverse people from other countries living in my city and to teach English. I have been blessed to have friends from literally all over the world.

Yes there have been down times and deep valleys along the way with struggles with autoimmune issues and times of wondering how things would work out. There have been times I wondered if I would have been better off to ignore the call of Jesus and stay in my career in the 1980s and just go to church, but then I would not have met all of the wonderful people God has blessed me with the opportunity to share his love with.

So this morning I stopped by that place to take a few pictures to write this post as a way to say to Jesus, I would do it all over again and hope for more time to reach out to others with his love.

Special places are nice to have, but I also want to embrace new special places and not be stuck in the past. My hope is to continue to serve Jesus many more years in this life. There are so many people who need his love.
