A picture from inside my church that is decorated for Friday evening. We will have respite night for families of children with special needs. The parents can bring their children for a fun evening while the parents can take a break to go whatever they want.
Church members who are carefully screened volunteer to help the children. Among the volunteers are university students, teachers, nurses, moms and church staff. This is a wonderful way to show the love of Christ to the children and their parents.
There are so many practical ways to be the hands of Jesus to the people around us. There is a world full of hurting people that we can reach. We may not know how to get started but we can learn from Moses when God called him. Moses did not feel adequate to serve and doubted himself. God asked Moses, “what do you have in your hands?” Moses had a staff in his hands. God worked miracles through that staff to do his work.
The Respite Night ministry at my church started with someone who had a background in Special Ed and others with a heart for the ministry. We will have 120 children come next Friday.
All God needs from us is a willingness to step out in faith and try. I will never forget what I heard Bill Bright the founder of Campus Crusade say when I heard him speak. He said, “when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ you can never dream too big for God because God’s ability to empower and use us is far greater than our ability to dream.”
In this time of so many broken and hurting lives around us, it would be great if more people looked to see what they have in their hands for God to use. 🙂
