Monday after my morning class I went to my college’s downtown campus to finish some paperwork. One of my fellow faculty members had her puppy with her. I stopped to spend a few minutes with her puppy before getting busy with my paperwork.
Puppies represent something more than just being cute. They represent new life and potential. If treated well and loved, they grow to become faithful friendly dogs and good protectors. If treated badly, they can grow to be mean dogs people are scared of.
The same is true of babies. The represent new life to us. If a baby is loved and nurtured, the baby has a better chance to grow to be a well adjusted adult. If a baby is not treated well, all kinds of problems can arise in adulthood.
When we become Christians, we are given a new life. We see in 2nd Corinthians 5:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Becoming a Christian does not mean instant perfection in our day to day reality in this life. It does in God’s eyes since he then sees us as covered in Christ and forgives us. Becoming a Christian means we are given a new life spiritually. .
When we become a Christian, God becomes our loving heavenly father. As our heavenly father, he begins the process of nurturing us in our new lives. He loves us so much that he forgives us and adopts us as his children, but he also loves us too much to let us stay the way we are. He works in our lives to help us become more like Jesus in our character and in the way we treat others.
Transformed lives are miracles. Testimonies of people’s lives changing are so encouraging for us to hear. I love to read about or hear the testimonies of people who God helped to overcome struggles like eating disorders, addiction, family problems, abuse, and how God transformed their lives. I also enjoy testimonies of people who grew up in a Christian family and became Christians at an early age.
Whatever struggle we face, if we look to God, if we come to Jesus, God will work in our lives to transform us and our lives. There are no hopeless cases with Jesus. He has the power and love to work in our lives for the better.
I once met a young man who had a benign brain tumor. It caused him to have seizures and the struggle embittered him to life. I started to meet with him for prayer and to encourage him. Some of the saddest words ever spoken by a pastor were spoken to me by the pastor of the church I went to at the time. He said, “You are probably wasting your time with him.” Long story short the young man’s life was transformed. He had a surgery to remove the benign tumor and he went on to have a college ministry. I left that church because I could not stay under a pastor who did not believe God could transform any life.
Dear reader whatever situation you are in, look to Jesus. He has the power to do great things. He can give a new start in life.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
