My classes at the college begin this evening. In the evenings, I teach ESL classes that many of the students have dreams of going on to college in the future. My Level 5 class this evening will be all new students for me and my Level 7 class tomorrow evening will be a mix of some returning that I had in Level 5 and some new students.

I always look forward to the start of a new term. It means ten weeks of opportunities to teach, encourage, and show God’s love by teaching. It means meeting new friends that I haven’t met yet.

My fellow blogger Lily asked me what countries I have had the most students from. My city Lincoln Nebraska has thousands of people who came here as refugees. We also have a large Hispanic population and a few thousand internationals who come connected with the university each year. The countries most of my students have come from are Mexico, Iraq, Sudan, Vietnam, and Burma. It is normal for me to have students in my classes from seven or eight different countries.

Please check out Lily’s blog at retrospectivelylily. She shares about her faith, her life with an autoimmune disease, literature and movies.

When a new term begins, I am always mindful of what Jesus said in John 3:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”

God loves all of the people in the world from every country, culture, and language. God has blessed me with showing his love to people from all over the world by teaching them English. As I interact with my students in class, I feel I get a glimpse of the truth that God loves all people.

My habit is to pray before I teach and ask God to help me show his love and pray for my students. I look forward to new opportunities this term. It is always an exciting time.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Thanks for answering my question and giving me a shout-out, brother! 🙂 Your job sounds so fulfilling. I love how you said that it gives you a glimpse into the fact that God loves all people. Reminds me of the vision Paul has at the start of Acts with all the different animals.

    1. Glad to give you a shout out my sister. Also glad the post meant something for you. God Bless 🙂
