It can be so discouraging to watch as our leaders debate each other about the character of a person nominated or the failures of someone on the other side.

I am old enough to remember when Ted Kennedy drove his car off the road and went into the water. He had a young woman with him. He ran from the accident and did not tell anyone for ten hours. The young woman died. He was reelected each time after that. The senators on his side said nothing and he was heralded by them as a champion for the poor.

When Clarence Thomas was nominated, he was accused of sexual harassment. He was confirmed for the Supreme Court. His side supported him.

Bill Clinton at minimum committed sexual harassment when he did what he did with a 20 year old intern. Other women came forward over the years about being assaulted by him. His side supported him and excused his behavior.

More recently we have the nomination of Kavanaugh and the whole ordeal surrounding it.

The point I am making is that leaders fail. It is dismaying to me how each side excuses it or turns a blind eye to it when it is their guy but attacks vehemently the other side. It comes across as being hypocritical to me. It is only about one thing- Holding Onto Power.

Things won’t change unless each side is willing to hold their own people accountable.

It makes me grateful that the leader I seek to follow has never and will never fail. Jesus will never fail in his character or conduct. As it says in Hebrews 13:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

While people will fail us and power corrupts people, I am thankful that the one who has all power, Jesus, will never be corrupted by power. His heart will forever remain pure and gentle. In Matthew 11 we see:

“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The reason Jesus gives us to come to him is that he is gentle and humble of heart. What a contrast to the leaders who crave power and will do anything to grab it.

Dear reader please look to Jesus. He is the King of the universe and has all power. He was willing to leave his throne in heaven to come to earth to sacrifice himself for us. He alone is worthy of us following him.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
