Do you have certain months that it seems God has a theme for you life? For example in my life July has been a month of significant life changes for me and June has been a month of adventure for me.

It seems appropriate to me that October is the month that two significant things happened in my life regarding my life and ministry. October is harvest month where I live. The farmers are working in their fields to harvest their crops these days. It was in October 1989 God called me to a life of reaching out to people who suffer. Ten years later he brought that into more focus for me.
I was in Bucharest Romania as part of a team representing four churches. We were in Romania to meet with missionaries to get a broader vision for ministry there. One afternoon after we toured the People’s Palace a building built by the former dictator to be the government building, I was standing outside talking with a missionary. I had taught in outreach English language camps in 1997 and 1998 my first experiences with teaching ESL. I asked the missionary if he thought teaching English was effective for reaching out to people. When he answered, “it is one of the best ways” the arrow in my spirit feeling hit.
I took the first steps in early 2000 to becoming what I am today. Now I teach ESL in a community college, have a ministry for refugees and immigrants living in my city, and have friends from all over the world. I have had opportunities to share the love of Jesus with people from all over the world.
My life is all about reaching out to people from all over the world to share the love of Jesus with them. That is why it is so appropriate that God called me to what I do in the month of October which is harvest month where I live.
It still amazes me when I think about it because it was in October 1994 that my feet swelled with edema from my first serious bout with autoimmune. It hurt to walk for several months. While I was sick during that time, I talked slow. It was in October 1996 that I took my first class to restart my education for ministry.
It was only five years after my feet swelled with edema that I was standing in Bucharest Romania talking with the missionary when God clarified what he was calling me to do. I feel it is important to share that because perhaps someone will read this who is going through a difficult time. God can work through that difficult time and bring you to a future calling and purpose that you had no idea would happen. Never give up because is always at work. My life is an example of the truth in Romans 8:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
