It is easy to feel that God does not see us or to feel lost in the busy world in which we live. The busyness of the holidays can compound this feeling for some. There always seems to be other people who are more important than we are or who do greater things than we do.
There are so many examples in the bible of God paying attention to those others overlook or simply pay no attention to. One such incidence was when Jesus was in the temple and an old widow caught his attention. In Mark 12 we read:
“Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
The elderly widow caught Jesus’s attention. He knew all about her life. For God there is no one who is small or insignificant.

Several years ago I met a wonderful woman when I went to a wedding for her grandson. She was 90 years old and a refugee from Burma. I thought about all the history she lived through. She lived through World War II. She lived through the military take over of her country . She experienced fleeing to a refugee camp and living in a refugee camp for many years. She came to America a year ago.

When I met her, I said to her Yesu Eh Nah which is Jesus loves you in her language. She kept hugging me, She smiled a big smile. She was maybe 4 feet 5 inches tall. It felt good to brighten her day. I shared with her through a translator for about ten minutes. I encouraged her to remember that her grandchildren can have a good life. She hugged me repeatedly.
The Bible states many times that we should care for the widows and orphans. Paul even said that caring for the widows and orphans is true religion. God sees all and cares for all no matter how small. No one is insignificant to Jesus. We may feel that way but it is not true. No act we do for God is too small. If we desire to serve God in our heart, He will take notice no matter how small or great we may think the act is or may think we are.
So my dear reader, if you start to feel overlooked, small, or insignificant, please remember that for God no one is unimportant. God sees you. God loves you. Jesus died for all of us because God wants us to be with him.
