One of my favorite songs at Christmas is O Holy Night. It has a powerful message and it always helps me to feel the presence of the Lord.
One of the lyrics vividly describes the state we are in in this life.
“long lay the world in sin and error pining”
We all struggle with the sin and errors. No one is immune to that. We all mess up in this life and many of us deal with the consequences of someone else’s actions.
Pining is a word we may not hear much. Pining can be thought of as “suffer a mental and physical decline, especially because of a broken heart” according to dictionary.com. We desire relief and long for something we can’t put our finger on.
Another lyric in the song so beautifully expresses what Christmas is really all about.
“Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth”
When Jesus came, he showed what our souls are worth. We are worth everything to him and to God the Father. Think of this- whoever you value most you will go to any lengths to protect, rescue, nurture, love etc.
Because God loves us so much, Jesus came to be our Savior.
Struggle with depression and anxiety? Jesus loves you.
Struggle with addiction? Jesus loves you.
Struggle with family problems? Jesus loves you.
Struggle with lust, greed, resentment, or any other sin? Jesus loves you.
Our souls are worth so much to God that he sent Jesus. That is what Christmas is really all about. Celebrating and remembering the love God showed by sending Jesus to be our Savior. That is why the soul felt its worth.
If we feel empty and worthless, we can think about how much God loved us and then realize our worth.
I like this version of O Holy Night by Hillsong. Thank you for reading. God Bless.
