Something that happened last week serves as an excellent reminder that real life continues during the holidays. We can get so caught up in the holiday celebration and trappings that we can lose sight of real life for a while, but it keeps marching on.
A new refugee family arrived in my city that I really hope to meet. They arrived here last week shortly before Christmas. It seems appropriate that they would arrive here shortly before Christmas since Jesus spent time as a refugee in Egypt after Joseph was warned in a dream to take Mary and Jesus and flee to Egypt due to King Herod sending soldiers to kill all baby boys in Bethlehem.

The family is a Yazidi family from Iraq. One family member was killed some years ago while working as a translator for the U.S. military. Andy, his nickname, shielded an American Sargent during an attack. Before Andy died, he asked the Sargent to take care of his wife and family.

The family is reunited with relatives and in the very early stages of starting their new lives in America. The local newspaper wrote their story. You can see it by clicking on- Yazidi family arrives.
Christmas week means different things to so many different people. For this Yazidi family Christmas week will always mean the time they came to America. I hope to meet them.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
