Hopefully how I spent the first day of the year sets the tone for the year to come. 🙂 My main goal for this year is to do what Hebrews 12 encourages us:

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us”

Yesterday I spent the day with a dear family who are friends of mine from Iran. They are Mandean, so they were a minority in Iran. I love to befriend people who were oppressed minorities in their country and do whatever little things I can to help them with their new lives in America.

I edited an essay for the daughter for an application for a program she is applying to. Then it was a delicious lunch of a fish dish served over rice. We played a card game they like for a few hours and talked. It was a wonderful way to start the new year,

Before all of that, I was blessed to spend some quality time listening to worship music and praying in the morning. My break has been spending time with God in the mornings, writing in my blog and interacting with other bloggers, and visiting people. It feels like a taste of retirement but who am I to kid. I may never retire because I love teaching and ministry.

My cup is full as I write this in the evening to prepare to post in the morning. For me there isn’t a better way to start the year than to be with people I love and hopefully being a blessing to them. It is much better than the old Matt that would sit in front of a TV all day on New Year’s Day watching football.

How did you spend your first day of the year?

Thanks for reading. God Bless. 🙂

  1. That sounds like a very pleasant start to 2019! My family had a board game marathon complete with popcorn and hot chocolate. I love when everyone gets to be home together. ☺️
