Living a life of following Jesus can be so fulfilling and yet at the same time so challenging. For me it has been so rewarding to be able to befriend people from all over the world who live in my city.
I love sharing in their cultures, helping them with their new lives in America, and sharing God’s love with them. I love the cultural celebrations and ceremonies I am invited to and especially love visiting my friends in their homes.
When people compliment me on various things such as mentoring new instructors, the ease and comfort I have with other cultures, the opportunities God gives me in ministry, I thank them but there is a big BUT in my mind.
BUT- There is a price to pay for people who desire to serve Jesus. It means a life of sacrifices on our part. There are obstacles along the way that only God can help us with. There are trials, down times, and changes in our lives. I love how the lyrics in the song New Wine put it:
“In the crushing
In the pressing
You are making
New wine
In the soil, I
Now surrender
You are breaking
New ground”
Why go through all of that? It is because of who is calling us. Jesus is the one who loves us so much that he sacrificed himself for us. It is because he loves us that we can trust him as the song expresses:
“So I yield to You and to Your careful hand
When I trust You I don’t need to understand”
Having experienced the love of Christ, my desire is to serve him. Knowing that I can only do so through him giving me the ability. We come to him with nothing, empty, in need of his forgiveness. We bring nothing to him that he needs. We can only come to him willing to be molded, shaped, and used by him. I love these lyrics in the song:
“Make me Your vessel
Make me an offering
Make me whatever You want me to be
I came here with nothing
But all You have given me
Jesus, bring new wine out of me”
Serving Jesus isn’t easy, but it is so worth it.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
