I bought the Win Like A Girl poster to put in my classroom for my morning class. I like the message behind it that girls can be winners with pictures of balls from different sports in the background. My hope is to empower the moms in my class and also to help them imagine possibilities for their daughters here in America. The moms have been through difficult times in life and I want to see them rise above their hardships.

Today is International Women’s Day. On this day I often think about how Jesus empowered women when he was on earth and continues to empower women daily throughout the world.

A great example of Jesus empowering women is Mary Magdalene. She was an outcast in society which we would understand from the fact that Jesus delivered from seven demons thus bringing healing to her life. There are no details about her life other than being delivered from seven demons, but one can easily understand her life got a whole lot better when Jesus came along.

Jesus bestowed a great honor on Mary Magdalene. She was allowed to be the first to see Jesus after his resurrection. She had stood at the cross during his crucifixion. A few days later, she was the first to see him after he was raised from the dead. Jesus gave her a task to go tell the others including the men that Jesus had risen from the dead.

For all of eternity, Mary Magdalene will be known as the first person to see Jesus after his resurrection. Her story can give hope to women in any situation. She went from outcast with seven demons troubling her to being part of Jesus’s inner circle of followers because Jesus came along one day and healed her.

This morning in my class we will celebrate the achievements of the moms. They have overcome many obstacles in their lives and continue to try to make a better life for their children. I started my day praying for them, their families, and their needs. My hope is to follow the example of Jesus and empower the women in my class.

Happy International Women’s Day 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
