Last night I watched a wonderful movie- Same Kind of Different As Me. There was a line in the movie that caught my attention when Denver told Ron that when he gives a meal to a homeless person, the person is still homeless but what Ron is really doing is saying, “I see you.”
God has called me to share his love with refugees and immigrants from all over the world living in my city. That is what my life is all about, so of course I see the people from other countries. But my experience has sensitized me to being aware of others around me as I go through life.

Last weekend, I was in a store and noticed a single mom with her daughter. Her daughter was pushing one of those carts for children. I made the comment, “I see you have you helper. She probably has ideas for you about what to buy.” We smiled. A few minutes later I walked by them again and the daughter had found the popcorn she likes showing it to her mom. As I walked by, I said, “She found something she likes.” and I smiled.
Sometimes I go to a coffee shop in the afternoons and see some elderly people playing card. I like to stop at their table and say someone has a lot of aces. They laugh.
In the mornings at the school where I teach moms, I like to interact with the children briefly. I joke with them about needing more homework. I also like to bless them by wishing them a good day in school.
These are just a few examples. The question is do we see them?
Jesus always sees us. Jesus saw a man named Zaccheus who no one wanted anything to do with because he was a tax collector. Zaccheus was too short to see over the crowd, so he climbed a tree to see Jesus. Jesus saw him. In Luke 19 we read:
“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly”
Jesus saw him and visited him in his home. That led to Zaccheus coming to faith in Jesus and changing his life.
Do we see them? Do we see them as Jesus sees them? They want to be seen. We all want to be seen. Our world is becoming increasingly impersonal and people long for connection. Do we see them and are we willing to connect with people?

We know Jesus sees them. We also know Jesus wants to do his work through us. Do we see them?
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
