Well the heat is on here in my home city with summer temps. We could get up to 98 degrees, 37 celsius for the rest of the world, and it will stay hot for the next five or six days. But life goes on such as my meeting with a friend from Mexico yesterday.

I have been teaching her for a few months. Her husband was transferred here for his work with a multinational corporation. When I do private teaching, I try to customize to the needs of my student.

She shared with me that she is confused by our coins here, so yesterday I brought some coins; quarter,s dime, nickels. and pennies, and we practiced with them.

While we were practicing, I commented that I didn’t know why we keep using the coins because they are not worth enough to buy something unless one has a lot of them. I shared with her that when I was a child, I could buy 10 candy bars for one dollar. Now one candy bar costs about one dollar unless there is a sale.

Coins are small and not worth much on their own. They are insignificant unless one has a jar of them. Thinking about coins got me to thinking about our worth to God.

Jesus used something small and insignificant in the eyes of many people to illustrate how much God cares for us.in Matthew 10:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”.

Jesus used the little sparrow to teach his followers about how much God cares for us. A few coins could buy 2 sparrows, but the coins did not show the true worth of the sparrows. God cares even about little sparrows, but he cares for us so much more.

No one is insignificant to God. We may feel small, overlooked, and not worth much, but God cares about us deeply. He proved that when he sent Jesus to die for us. By doing so, he sent his very best for us.

So if we are feeling like we aren’t worth much in life, feeling depressed, feeling like a loser or hopeless, that is not how God sees us. He sees someone he loves more than any other part of his creation. He sees someone he loves.
