I will gladly admit that I am a huge Tolkien fan both of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. My last trip to Brazil I watched all of the Hobbit movies on the flight from Houston to Rio de Janeiro.
There is a scene from Return of the King where Elrond talks with Aragorn. Elrond brought him the famous sword and exhorted Aragorn to put aside the ranger and become what he was born to be-The King.
I love that scene and yes in my mind which relates many things to Lord of the Rings and also to Star Wars, that scene relates to what it means to follow Jesus.
Every time I see that scene, and yes I have seen the movie maybe 50 times, I think of Jesus telling us to put away our old lives and become who he has called us to be- Co-heirs with Christ.
Think about it. Choosing to trust in Jesus and believe in him means becoming co-heirs of the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. There is no higher calling.
Jesus gives us a sword- His word the Bible. Ephesians 6 says:
“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
So basically Jesus. like Elrond in the movie 🙂 , comes to us handing us His Word- spiritual sword- and exhorts us to put aside our old life and become what he has called us to be.
This gives you a glimpse into how my mind works. Hope it isn’t too scary haha.
