The other day as I was walking through the outdoor patio area of the coffee shop, I came across a married couple with a dog. As I approached, the dog got up to greet me. I had never met the dog before, but still he was ready to greet me. So I stopped to pet him for a few minutes while talking with the married couple.
It is amazing the friendship humans can have with various animals. I am always amazed by the bond between people and their horses. I am not a horse person myself, but can appreciate the bond some people have with horses.
As I was talking with a friend the other day, we talked about whether there would be animals in heaven. I shared my thoughts from Isaiah 11:6-7:
The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
In the new heavens and new earth, there will be animals. God will redeem all of his creation.
While there is no biblical basis for it, my secret hope is to see my friend Taffy again. She was my dog as child and a Golden Retriever. If not Taffy, it would be great to have some golden retriever friends in the new heavens and new earth.
