I love the quote from Psalm 98:18-19 for biblegateway’s verse of the day.

When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
    your consolation brought me joy.

I love it because it illustrates God’s compassion for us when we struggle with anxiety. God does not dismiss or ignore anxiety. He invites us to come to him and be consoled.

God invites us to cast our anxiety on him. 1st Peter 5:17 says:

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

I love that God in the bible gives us things to do when we experience anxiety. He invites us to come to him and cast it on him. God is certainly big enough to handle it. Even more he understands it. Jesus experienced anguish the night he was arrested. In Matthew 26:38 we read:

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

When we experience anguish, anxiety or any related struggle, God does not tell us to ignore it or deny it. He invites us to come to him and we can do so knowing Jesus understands. God invites us to give him our struggles, our anxiety, our anguish, and seek comfort and help from him.

We can come to God knowing that he is Abba, Father as Romans 8:14-15 says:

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.  The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

God wants us to experience relationship of heavenly father with his child. He does not want us to be slaves to fear. He wants us to give our fears to him.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Matt, this is true wisdom to let God be our Abba that we give all our troubles to. Intimate relationship with God makes such a difference in our lives!

    1. Abba Father works wonders in our lives 🙂

      1. 😊 Yes, God works wonders in our lives!!!

  2. Amen. Thank you for a blessed word in season, Matt!

    1. Thank you Craig. How are you?

      1. I’m hanging in there. The Lord is faithful. I recently learned that I need heart surgery, which will deal a pretty hard blow to my pain condition, so have been a bit preoccupied with that prospect lately. I trust that the Lord will bring me through it somehow. I don’t relish the physical suffering that will be entailed, but He went through worse for me. I know that He always has a good purpose for every trial, so I’m trying to keep my eyes on Him and His kingdom.

      2. When will you have the surgery?

      3. For some reason WordPress won’t let me respond to your latest question. But in answer to your question about when the surgery will be, it is in the process of being scheduled. My cardiologist is determining where the best place to have it done is, since it is not something that is done locally.

  3. Glad we can carry everything to God in prayer. 🙏🏿

    1. AMEN- Everything 🙂
Costa Rica here you come 🙂

      1. Yes!! 🇨🇷🇨🇷

  4. Amen!! As I did EMDR work in therapy this past week my positive cognition was “When I feel uncomfortable God is with me and He is my primary resource.” …when we experience anxiety we must remember this isn’t a foreign emotion that God doesn’t know or care about, instead His word says that He wants us to come to Him for comfort and direction in dealing with it, we don’t need to (and can’t) find peace in secondary options…We are so blessed to have our Lord who loves us unconditionally and comes alongside us, He is reliable and our best resource.

    1. AMEN_ Jesus is always with us and wants to bring healing to our souls. You are precious to Jesus little sister 🙂

      1. Thank you! That made me smile!😊

  5. The image of our Savior bringing His anguish to the Father in prayer serves each of us with a timeless example. In faith, we can trust God’s grace in such situations.
