Friday evening I went to my friend Todd’s home to watch a football game. I always enjoy visiting him and his wife. His Golden Retriever and I have become friends. He also has another dog a smaller mixed breed dog.

I was wondering how the dogs would respond to me since I did not bring treats for them this time, but Indy the Golden was with me the whole evening. I was petting him throughout the whole game. He even followed me to the bathroom door and waited for me.

The smaller dog wanted attention too but each time I would give her some attention, Indy would push her away. Indy did not want to share my attention. He was jealous and wanted my attention all to himself.

Did you know that God uses the word jealous to describe himself?

Deuteronomy 4:24 says:

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

God created us. God is our Savior since after all Jesus God the Son came into this life to die for us. God’s love is all consuming. He does not want to share our attention or love with any false gods. He wants us all for himself and for his people.

What does it mean to you that God is a consuming fire not wanting to share you with any false gods? For me it is comforting to know that his love for me is that strong.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I agree. It’s a comfort to know His love for us is that strong. It makes me feel special 🥰

    1. You are special to Jesus little sister 🙂

  2. Great analogy, Matt. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you little sister. How are you?

      1. Good I’ve been on the go though, we took Paige to Nashville last week, that’s where she chose for a senior trip with mom and dad…Then, because the other two kids didn’t go, we went to Winter Park, Colorado this past weekend so they could have a little outing this year. I’m subbing today and a few more times this week plus I’ll do hair at the nursing home one day and garden a few days at an older gentleman’s property!! Crazy!!
        How about you?

      2. I haven’t been as busy as you 😂

  3. God’s jealousy, for wanting our whole attention, becomes a burning fire to consume those idols in our life that gets in the way of his being our first priority!

  4. You made me think of a song: How He Loves by David Crowder.

    “He is jealous for me.
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
    When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me…..”

Thanks for sharing. Love you dad! ❤❤❤❤

  5. I’m glad wants to have a monogamous relationship with me.

    1. He will not share us with any false god. It is comforting

  6. He knows that anything we substitute in His place will disappoint and leave us high and dry wondering how we got there. Reminds me of the Father of the prodigal son who watched for him and was so glad when he came back home, even though the son had to hit rock bottom before he realized that the things he had been pursuing had left him empty and alone. The father’s love was not selfish but ardent for the good of His son, ready to forgive and restore him.

  7. Amen. He created us for His glory. We should be devoted to Him and follow Him just like how the dog followed you.

    1. He deserves our attention
