My streak of having never gone shopping on Black Friday is intact. I visited my friend Todd to watch football and even though our team lost, it was much better to spend time with him than to do the insane thing of shopping on Black Friday.

More importantly, after the game we had a good conversation. We talked about what the bible says about what happens for those who pass away that believe in Jesus.

2nd Corinthians 5:8 says:
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

In the instance that a believer passes away, our souls/spirits enter into heaven. Then one day in the future, our bodies will be resurrected into glorified bodies. That is the great hope for all who believe in Jesus.

After we prayed, I came home to eat and relax. Though it was a day of grieving for my friend, it was a good day, much better than wasting time shopping. The reason I say good is because even in the midst of grief, we focused on Jesus.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Congrats on keeping your streak alive, Matt. I haven’t shopped on Black Friday in years. I get the feeling it’s not what it used to be. After all, we have Amazon. 😊

    1. Online is much better than in the store for me 🙂
      How was your Thanksgiving?

      1. It was a quiet Thanksgiving for Nancy and me. We even watched Dallas and Washington play football 🏈, with Dolly Parton entertaining at half time. 🎤

      2. Are you a Dallas fan or Washington fan?

      3. I don’t follow sports, of any sort, these days, Matt. I wasn’t cheering for either team—just watching, and waiting for Dolly.

  2. And I’m so thankful that we will see our saved loved ones again! ♥️

    1. Amen little sister. It will be a great blessing 🙂

  3. Mine is intact as well. I have never wanted the afterglow of thanksgiving to go away very fast. We shop for Christmas (just the right gifts) most of the year. That’s what they make closets for.

    1. Keeping an eye out for something a loved one or friend would actually like makes it more special

That sounds like a MUCH better Friday than waiting in lines at stores or scrolling endlessly online! God bless.

    1. Thank you little sister. It was a much more meaningful day than if I had gone to a store or shopped online. How was your Thanksgiving?

It was good, thank you! A friend dropped by unexpectedly and brought us flowers, and that sure was nice.

      2. that’s a good friend 🙂

  5. Thanks to a pen friend. I found a new tradition for Black Friday. Flood the Streets with Art. This is my second year participating. So much fun!

    1. I love that new tradition. Add beauty to the world don’t waste time being greedy in malls 🙂

      1. And it’s really fun to see people check in when they’ve found some free art!

  6. Time with friend is much better

  7. I like how you chose to spend the day.

    1. Thank you Manu.
      Are you ready for Christmas?

      1. Not at all ready for Christmas.

  8. Fighting crowds and shopping on Black Friday is not something that I pursue. The habits of people have changed since Covid and all the bargains can be accessed online, if one desires. I would rather spend time in solitude or with friends. You chose well Matt.

  9. Glad you didn’t have to Black Friday shop😂I didn’t either!!

Those topics of passing away, and spending eternity in Heaven with Jesus are some of the best conversations to be had.

    1. It was deeply meaningful.
No Black Friday shopping for you? What did you do?

      1. Put up my tree, decorated my house for Christmas!! Listened to Christmas music all the while!!

      2. Do you know how Christmas trees get ready? They get all spruced up 🙂

      3. 😂😂😂love it!!
