My name is Anna and like my friend Simeon, I am one of those easily overlooked people mentioned in the bible. I am barely mentioned but for me it was the most significant day of my like on earth. Sure, I had been married, but to see the promised Messiah as an elderly woman was the pinnacle of my earthly life.
When I saw the Messiah, the promised one of God, I was 84 years old. Not many people lived to 84 back in my days on earth, but God blessed me with many years to serve him after the death of my husband. We were only married seven years when my husband died, and then I devoted my life to prayer in the Temple.
The day came that I met Joseph and Mary when they brought Jesus to present him to God in the Temple. That still is a wonder that I ponder, they brought the God the Son to the Temple to present to God.
When I met them and beheld Jesus, God showed me that Jesus was indeed the Savior of the world. God also prompted me to speak about how Jesus would bring salvation becoming our Savior to all who were around and of course to Joseph and Mary.
That two elderly people like myself and Simeon and some lowly shepherds are mentioned in the bible as part of the scene around Jesus’s birth into his earthly life shows that no one is insignificant to God. No one is overlooked by God and the salvation Jesus brings is for anyone who will receive him.
