Lost in the shuffle of discussion about conflicts such as Ukraine are the effects on children. The traumatic experiences they go through in a war zone have lingering effects even after they are safe in another country. Such is the case for my young friend E.

E has been struggling emotionally at school. She left the occupied area of Ukraine with her family. That means she witnessed first hand the war there with all of the violence.

E’s mother received a call from the school to meet with her school counselor. Fortunately the school system in my city Lincoln has experience helping refugee children dealing with trauma. E’s mother met with the school counselor this week to discuss the plan to help E.

E has told me at New Breath, the new Ukrainian church, that she wants to make Jesus happy. She has the faith of a child being that she is only nine years old. I told her that when she prays it makes Jesus happy.

This Sunday I hope to talk with her about how Jesus understands how she feels and that she can share how she feels in prayer with Jesus.

Please join me in praying for E and other refugee children.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  2. I can’t fathom the trauma these precious children have endured…and are still enduring. I’m so thankful for those that care, like you.

    1. It is hard to fathom. I am glad I can be a small part of their healing journey but it is so tragic what they endured

  3. Adding “E” and the other babies of refugee and wars to my prayers. Trauma is hard on all that experience such events, it is especially harder on children, who minds are yet in a developing stage. Who lack the knowledge and understanding of what actually took place and how to deal with it. I pray that the Lord heals them completely and bring peace to them in mind, body, and soul. As an adult who has experienced much trauma over the years, one of the hardest things to do, is learning to face the fear that first brought on the trauma and learning to overcome its hold on you. I pray the Lord gives her the strength she needs to overcome-as well as the others. God Bless and keep her ♥
