Yesterday evening I was at a new coffee shop with my friends from the Ukrainian church for a meeting. A young woman joined us for a while whose parents are from Ukraine. The young woman came here with them when she was 1 year old.

She is now a single mom. She had rededicated her life to Jesus a few years ago. Her daughter is four years old. As we were talking, I asked her how we could pray for her. She shared about her heart for ministry. Then I stopped her and said, “What I mean is that you are a single mom. That cannot be easy. How can we come around you in prayer for you as a single mom.”

She burst into tears saying no one had asked her that before. We gathered around her and prayed. It was a poignant moment.

After I left, it caused me to wonder why we don’t ask people such questions more often. Questions that come from a heart that has genuine concern for others. Questions that come from a desire to help people where they are at in life. Questions that do not come with judgement.

Before she left, I asked her a another question, “Who was the first person who saw Jesus after his resurrection?” She answered Mary Magdalene. We talked about how Jesus delivered her of seven demons. Then we talked about the message behind Jesus choosing to appear to her first.

It was an interaction that will stay with me for a while.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. It is truly a blessing to read your interactions with others, “why don’t we ask people more often”? I thank you for taking that moment and letting God use you, as a single mother, which my 3 are grown now, I wished someone would have taken two seconds to ask me about me. Because more often than not, I was feeling overwhelmed and needed someone like you all in my life then. To know that you all gave her the opportunity to let go of some of the frustrations and pain, that comes with being a single mother: brings so-so much joy to my heart. I am truly grateful to God for allowing me to witness this ♥ Your heart and love for God and others continuously shines bright Matt and I thank God for you! Blessed Afternoon.

    1. You are a wonderful single mom little sister. I think of how well your daughter developed in life- graduating college, working in Spain for a few years,
