Yesterday evening I was at a new coffee shop with my friends from the Ukrainian church for a meeting. A young woman joined us for a while whose parents are from Ukraine. The young woman came here with them when she was 1 year old.

She is now a single mom. She had rededicated her life to Jesus a few years ago. Her daughter is four years old. As we were talking, I asked her how we could pray for her. She shared about her heart for ministry. Then I stopped her and said, “What I mean is that you are a single mom. That cannot be easy. How can we come around you in prayer for you as a single mom.”
She burst into tears saying no one had asked her that before. We gathered around her and prayed. It was a poignant moment.
After I left, it caused me to wonder why we don’t ask people such questions more often. Questions that come from a heart that has genuine concern for others. Questions that come from a desire to help people where they are at in life. Questions that do not come with judgement.
Before she left, I asked her a another question, “Who was the first person who saw Jesus after his resurrection?” She answered Mary Magdalene. We talked about how Jesus delivered her of seven demons. Then we talked about the message behind Jesus choosing to appear to her first.
It was an interaction that will stay with me for a while.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
