In John 8:32 Jesus said-:Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
In John 14:6 Jesus said- “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Coming to know Jesus gives us a reality check not only about life in general, but also about lies we have believed or have been told.
Anyone who has dealt with past abuse, past manipulative situations, past trauma, can experience healing as the truth frees us. Jesus will bring healing into our lives, our souls, our minds. Our minds can be renewed by the Word of God.
One example is a young woman from my church who read my book Jesus Understands Trauma. We have had a few conversations. This past Sunday she kept apologizing for crying. My reply was to please do not apologize for your feelings. Then she told me when her mother would be abusive and she would cry, her mother would say, “Why are you crying? You need a psychiatrist?”
To show her the absurdity of what her mother would constantly say to berate her, I shared with her, “The shortest verse in the bible says that Jesus wept. Do you think Jesus needs a psychiatrist because he cried?”
She laughed but she also understood the message.
Our minds can be renewed with the truth in God’s Word. We can be freed from past lies that have kept us entrapped.
