Waiting is not always something I enjoy. There are places that waiting is especially difficult. Sitting in a dentist office waiting area is not fun as one hears the sound of the drills the dentist uses. Waiting in line at the supermarket is another example for me. One of the worst scenarios is waiting for someone to write a check. I tend to think. “It’s the 21st century. A debit card would be so much faster.”

In these troubled times we live in, I wonder how much longer we need to wait for Jesus to return. It would be wonderful for him to return today, tomorrow or next week. But then I need to remember what Peter wrote in 2nd Peter 3:8-9.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

The reason for waiting is so more people can come to know Jesus. That is why Jesus told us in Acts chapter 1 that it is not for us to know the time but for us to be his witnesses.

So while we are waiting, we have the blessing of being part of his work.

Waiting for the Lord to return is better than waiting in line or waiting for the dentist because while we wait for him to return, he is still always with us and blesses us with opportunities to share his love.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Waiting is definitely not something I deal with very well but I know that it’s necessary at times. I can be very impatient sometimes though, lol.

  2. While we wait for His coming, we have been provided with the privilege of serving our Lord

  3. Waiting often brings excellent rewards. As youngsters time seems to be almost standing still but as we get older, time flies. Right now we get to do the King’s business and win souls for his kingdom. Hallelujah!

    1. Amen- do the King’s business
