Fear of God is something we don’t often speak of. Perhaps due to misunderstanding of what it means. Fear of God biblically speaks of respecting God and reverencing God when it comes to his people, his children.
Respect for God and Reverence for God are what Proverbs 1:7 speaks of- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
It is not speaking of being afraid which would be the modern understanding of the word fear. As 1 John 4:18 says- There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
In our times, fear of the Lord is not spoken of as much but is so important to have. Respecting God and his teaching is vital to our daily lives. Respect and reverence for God protects us as we follow his ways in these times.
