Romans 14:8- If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
I love this verse of the day on biblegateway.com. It is a comforting reminder that no matter what, I belong to Jesus. Living for the Lord is understandable. It means seeking to live a life for him that honors him while we share him and his love with others.
But die for the Lord? Psalm 116:15 says
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
It is not some morbid thing in the eyes of Jesus when we die. In his eyes it is our homecoming to be with him eternally safe. That is why when those who know Jesus die, it is precious in his sight because we come home.

Jesus is preparing a place for his people. He is preparing our homecoming. John 14:2 says
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
I enjoy watching videos of soldiers returning home and the joy on the faces of loved ones. That is nothing compared to the joy Jesus has when his people come home to him. Hebrews 12:2 says
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The joy set before him was reunion in heaven with The Father and also knowing he had secured salvation for all who would come to know him.
It is comforting to know that I belong to Jesus forever, not because of me or what I have done, but because of Jesus and what he did for me.
