Sunday afternoon a change happened that perhaps would not seem to be a big deal. But for me it was. After 2 surgeries and 21 weeks of physical therapy, I was able to stand for most of the time while sharing about Jesus at New Breath Church. It was the first time since before my surgeries that I tried to stand.

For my Friday morning Refugee Welcome Class, comprised mostly of beginning English learners, I will finally be able to demonstrate stand up and sit down again.

For worship service, I will be able to stand as we worship again.

As I watched the video from my message, one other thing I noticed was the need to remember the cane is not for playing with while speaking 🙂

Thinking about being able to stand again brings to mind Paul’s admonition in Ephesians 6 about our spiritual battle with the evil one. Paul used military imagery to explain spiritual truth. Satan is in a spiritual battle with God, which he is doomed to lose, and he seeks to take it out on human beings because we are the ones Jesus came and died for. We are the ones created in the image of God. We are the ones God calls his children when we come to Jesus. But God is at our side and gives us what we need to be able to stand spiritually.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

My progress is being able to stand for most of an 18 minute message gives me hope that I will be able to go on a ministry trip to another country again.

But I doubt I will ever enjoy standing in a supermarket waiting in line. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
