Sitting in my coffee shop yesterday, I had a mix of happiness with a bit of nostalgic sadness.

It was nice to sit in my coffee shop after teaching my morning class, catch up on blogging, and tell some jokes. Top it off with the mug they gave me to use for the day had dolphins on it. Dolphins are something I want to see in person someday. As a child, a popular show was Flipper about a dolphin. When I swam on a swim team, each time I swam butterfly, I thought of dolphins because the butterfly stroke has motion to it that made me think of dolphins.

Alas but the sad nostalgia part. As I went to sit in the booth, my shirt caught on the table edge and tore a bit. It is my favorite shirt. I have worn it two or three times a week. Yes, I washed it between wearing. It is not fancy, but sure is comfortable. Now due to the way it tore, it has become a shirt I will only wear under a sweater.

Then I realized something. I think I have become one of those old guys who will repeatedly wear something because it is comfortable.

But I also knew the day was coming that it would have to be retired from the rotation of shirts I wear because due to slowly losing weight, it has become too big. A scary thought is eventually I will need to buy some better fitting shirts. Shopping is a bad word for me.

It makes me wonder about when we are clothed in white robes in heaven worshiping Jesus. Will we need to do laundry and wash said robes? It seems to me that laundry would not be a need in heaven. I am confident the robes will be more comfortable than my shirt.

What do you think?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. sorry your shirt tore! I love dolphins too! Would be cool to see them!

    1. It would be cool to see them in the ocean swimming alongside a boat

  2. Sorry about your shirt, Matt! Hard to give up favorite shirts, pants, shoes, etc. I’d say get it patched, but if the shirt is too big, it’s probably not worth it. Choosing comfy clothing over the latest fashions is one of the privileges of growing older, eh? My father-in-law called his comfy clothes “soft clothes.” The minute he arrived home from being out-and-about he’d get into his “soft clothes!” The whole family still uses the term in his honor.

    1. Soft clothes are the best. Patched is beyond my ability and it is an old shirt so I think under the sweater is okay because no one can see the tear lol

  3. It sucks when we have to replace our favourite clothes but try to think of it as an opportunity to find a new wonderful shirt that fits you well.

    1. True but it takes a little while to break in a new one haha

      1. Haha that’s true.

  4. I love shopping 🛍️😂 I’ll come with you to buy your new closet…

    1. Thank you Brenda but I live so far away it would be too hard haha

  5. Sorry about your shirt. Hate it when that favorite thing you like to wear gets damaged.

  6. We all love the old comfortable things but sometimes we have leave our comfort zones. How are your knees? I hope they are much better.

    1. My knee is making progress thank you 🙂
Leave comfort zones is okay but with clothing ugh haha

  7. The last part got me! 😁
Amen to when we don’t have to worry about a wardrobe change. 🙌🏼😊

And sorry about the favorite shirt going into retirement. 😁

    1. It was a sad moment but I will persevere lol

  8. No laundry in Heaven. Things don’t get dirty.

    Pure Glory

  9. I’ve heard the theory that wearing “white robes” in heaven means we will be clothed in light. Either way, I agree, there probably won’t be laundry to do in heaven, or if there is, we will do it to the glory of God, and we’ll enjoy it. 😉

    1. No laundry will be good 😊

  10. Matt, the story about your shirt reminds me of a true relic hanging in my closet. It’s a very old and tattered Montana State t-shirt. While I haven’t worn in for quite some time, the well-faded color still shares a few memories. Praising the memories God has waiting for us.

    1. Will your wife let you wear you old Montana State shirt in public? 🙂
