“We need you and the ones who come after us need you.” This was spoken to me during class Thursday evening. The context?

One of my students is a Nursing Assistant in an assisted living facility for older people. She asked me if I recovered from my surgeries at home and after I told her yes, she said I could have come to her facility. I laughed a bit and told her no way would I want to do that because maybe I would be stuck there.
Then I commented that I would rather Jesus take me home to heaven than end up forgotten in an assisted living place. She asked me about family and would they miss me. My reply was that it is a long story but no one would miss me because I have no family. That was when she said we need you and the ones who come after us need you.
Interesting how God gives us reminders at the right moments. Her comment caused me to refocus without her knowing it. Living with chronic illness can cause me to get in a funk at times. Jesus gives strength each day and has certainly carried me through tough times, but still depression is always hanging around during flare ups. The ones who come after the ones he has me helping now are the reason Jesus wants me to get up and keep going.

Just to put an exclamation point on it, my Uber driver to return home was a former student who I found out had become a Christian after he had been my student. He asked me if I was going to retire and how old I am. I said, “I am only twenty-two, so not retiring.” He laughed and said, “You haven’t changed. Still joking.”
When I returned home, I checked the mail and saw I received a blessing. It was a check to help me with medical bills and help New Breath celebrate its one year anniversary.
It was quite the Thursday evening to say the least. God can speak to use in ways that are tailor designed for us. He knows how we are wired. He knows my students, refugee/immigrant friends, mean a lot to me.
How does God get your attention?
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
