This morning I was reflecting on God calling Abraham in Genesis 12. It starts with God telling Abraham to leave his home and go to the place God would show him. In other words, start moving and God would tell him where to go along the way.

The part that stuck out to me was what else God said to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3.

I will make you into a great nation,
    and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
    and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.”

God already had the plan for what he was going to do for and through Abraham. Abraham just needed to step out, get moving.

The thought hit me of how God always has a reason, a plan, for why he calls us to do something. The blessing comes when we respond and step into the plan.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Abraham and his wife Sarah. They bumbled things at times. Abraham’s faith was tested. When his faith stood the test, the promised blessing was repeated.

Just because God has a plan for us does not mean it will always be easy going. There will be trials and tests along the way. But as Philippians 1:6 says, God will be faithful.

 that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Many years ago, God showed me that he would reach wounded souls through me. I have certainly had my share of trials and tests along the way. I have had times of doubting and wondering how things would work out. But God has been faithful and yes, many wounded souls have been reached.

What is God calling you to?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Every Christian has a calling from God she must respond to and act on!

    1. By responding we receive the blessing

  2. Helps me to know God has the plan already

  3. What a beautiful post. I struggle with this sometimes because if I’m going to do something, I would like a guarantee that it’s going to work first! 😅 And I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. It sounds like God has turned your pain into something good for others (and maybe for yourself too?). I’m not sure what I’m called to do yet, but I try to stay available to volunteer at church.

    1. Go will lead you step by step. It is a journey of discovery not a destination when we serve and live for Jesus

  4. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Ephesians 2:10. It is encouraging, even when we don’t know what it is yet. But as you say, when He says to move we must doing – often we don’t know where to until He shows us!

    1. If he had shown me all of what would have been involved, I would have freaked out. I am glad it is one step at a time. 🙂

      1. Amen to that! Likewise! 😀

  5. God sees far ahead of our current place in our faith journey. The need to trust stirs my thoughts with this message. Blessings Matt.

    1. Thank you Richard. It is comforting to know that God is with us now and in the future at the same time
