Yesterday we had a hot windy day here in Nebraska. In late October, that means things are about to change. Sure enough, I am sitting here enjoying the sound of rain. We have a cool rainy day today and it will stay cool perhaps until next spring. Rainy days are good for naps. 🙂

Yesterday I also met my new students in the refugee welcome class. One of the students is a single mom from Guatemala. After class, I spoke with her in Spanish saying, “Siempre Jesus Cristo es contigo” Jesus is always with you, “Jesus puede ayudarte con tu nueva vida aqui” Jesus can help you with your new life here. She smiled and thanked me.

It is life’s moment like that, connecting with people, that make me grateful that I learned Spanish. They make me grateful to be a language nerd for Jesus.

Even simply learning how to greet someone in their language has opened doors and helped me make connections with people. Greeting someone in their language shows I respect them and is a pleasant surprise for them.

During his earthly ministry, Jesus connected with people where they were at in life. He didn’t have a canned spiel. He connected with them and met them in their circumstances.

I live in a city with a diverse population because of refugee resettlement. But if I lived somewhere different, it would cause me to look for other ways to connect with people.

How do you connect with people?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  3. I’m thankful to connect with students and teachers as I substitute teach. I’m not outgoing naturally but I can see that God has given me a love for teaching and as a result I’ve met amazing people because of it.
I always love to see and learn of the way you connect with others—through teaching, church, and the coffee shop. God has blessed you with an abundant amount of ways to minister for Him.
