It was interesting for me to read Nancy’s blog post about gratitude Grow That Glow yesterday because as I was catching up with bloggers, I was sitting in my coffee shop. The mood here is a stark contrast to being grateful or having joy.

She did an excellent job developing the reason why some Christians seem to glow, show in their eyes, the joy of the Lord.

As I was blogging in my coffee shop, as I mentioned, the mood was anything but joyful. The coffee shop I come to most often is a very left leaning one. The people who work here would be labeled “woke” by most people. They are rather somber this week probably due to the results of the election.

I feel for them because if one does not know Jesus, where does one put their hope? If one places their hope in fallen human beings and political leaders, one will be disappointed often. If things do not go the way someone in such a circumstance hopes for, then it could feel like hope is lost.

By contrast, Christians who have experienced the presence of Jesus even in the most dire of circumstance, have experienced joy. I think of Corrie Ten Boom who was in a Nazi prison camp and whose father and sister died in the prison camps, was able to say:

“There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.”

No matter what circumstance we are in, God is greater. His love is deeper than anything circumstance. We have eternity to look forward to.

I hope in coming weeks, perhaps I can share my hope in Jesus with them.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Hope is a beautiful thing, share that hope with the world!

    1. Amen- share the hope in Jesus with the world

  2. Second time in a week for me that Corrie Ten Boom has come up! I love that quote and I may need to pick up her book. Having joy and hope in our worldly circumstances isn’t hard when our hearts are aligned with Him. Such a great message! Thank you for sharing your message, Matt! 🙂

    1. Her book is inspiring. You can also watch the film Hiding Place

  3. You are in a great place to share the hope of Jesus. He is what they need and you know it. God bless you as you live the hope of Christ before them.

  4. You have such an opportunity to share hope in that little coffee shop. Praying hearts would be opened and inviting.

    1. Thank you for praying little sister. I am at coffee shop- I know shocker 🙂
How are you and your family doing? Have you driven to Paige’s college recently?

      1. I’ve been sick, so I could be better but everyone else is great! I was going to visit Paige last Friday at college but my plans got changed because I needed to visit a friend in the hospital instead.

      2. Will pray for you little sister. How is your friend now?

      3. She had a liver transplant six years ago, her body is in long-time rejection mode. PLEASE be praying, these next few months of med treatments and tests will be pertinent as to determine if she’ll need another transplant. She is a strong woman of faith which is amazingly encouraging.
        Thanks for asking…and praying.❤️

  5. I agree, without Jesus there is no hope. Even if the “right” candidates win, they will inevitably disappoint. Life itself disappoints, because it always ends the same way – death. Only One has conquered death and promised eternal life and joy. May those sad people be drawn to you, and may you have opportunities to tell them about your “dual citizenship” and how they can have it themselves.

    1. Amen- Only One can give true eternal hope. I would gladly share with others about my dual citizenship.

  6. I pray that you will have opportunities to show seeds of hope to the people in the coffee shop and to share the reason for the hope that you yourself have.

    1. Thank you for praying Dawn 🙂
How is life across the pond?

      1. Life is good Matt. Great God, good family, church, health, work and friends. I’m very blessed and very fortunate.

You’re absolutely right. Hope in Jesus transcends all circumstances. While the world may offer temporary solutions, God’s love is constant and eternal. I pray your light shines brightly in sharing that hope with others.

    God Bless You …

    1. Thank you Willie. Jesus-Immanuel- God with us through it all
