Approachable- Is that a word one would use to describe God? When considering Jesus, I would say most definitely yes.

Even on his throne in heaven in all of his glory, which would startle me as it did John when he was shown heaven and shown what to write for Revelation, Jesus turned what was seemingly unapproachable to being approachable.

Look at how Jesus is described in Revelation 1:13-16:

“and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”

John fell at the feet of Jesus out of fear. How Jesus responded in Revelation 1:16-18 is wonderful to remember.

“Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”

In all of his glory, majesty, and power on display, Jesus told John- “Do not be afraid.” It is the same thing he told the disciples in Matthew 17 when they witnessed his transfiguration and fell to the ground out of fear. Jesus touched them and told them, “do not be afraid.”

I think of my little friend Samuel. He is six years old. He is Pastor Alekseyi’s son. He told his mom a year ago, “mom I remember the war. It was scary.” After Ruslana told me what Samuel said, each time I see him, I give him a hug and remind him that Jesus loves him. When I see him at New Breath Church and call him by name, he comes running to me. In little Samuel’s eyes, I am approachable.

Jesus invites all to come to him. He said so in Matthew 11:28:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus is approachable. His arms are open wide to receive all who trust in him as their Savior.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
