Try imagining being one of the shepherds that first Christmas thousands of years ago. They were going about their mundane lives doing hard work taking care of sheep. It was time to get some shut eye when all of the sudden, boom, out of nowhere, an angel appears to tell them Jesus was born. And then to put a huge emphasis on it, a choir of angels singing:
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
I dare say that the shepherds had no idea they were about to be visited by angels. They were perhaps the lowest of society aside from lepers etc. They would not have expected God to show up through his angels to announce the birth of Jesus.
They would not have expected to be the ones, the first ones, that the greatest news of all time would be announced to them.
Have you experienced that? God showing up when you least expected it? God working through you when no one would have thought it?
I know I have. God’s ways are not our ways. One day God will show up in the biggest way ever and the whole world will witness it when Jesus returns.
