It is troubling to see wars flare up like what is happening in the Mideast right now and what has been happening in Ukraine. When war flare up in the Mideast, the tendency for me is to wonder how close are we to the return of Jesus. Jesus himself gave us signs of the end times which include wars and rumors of war in Matthew 24:6.
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”
It is the “but see to it that you are not alarmed” that gets me. How do we see to it that we are not alarmed when there is war brewing?
Jesus gave us these signs so we are not surprised, caught off guard by them. But it goes beyond that. He also said that he gives us peace, peace inside. In John 14:27 Jesus said.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
So we can have peace inside when trouble brew around us. We can also trust that God has a plan. Psalm 46:10 says.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Ultimately God will be exalted, God is in control, and he tells us to be still and gives us peace inside. We need to trust that somehow all of this fits into the plan and that we are eternally safe with God.
