“If you laugh, he will keep telling jokes,” my friend Todd said to the barista Monday when we went to the coffee shop. The barista laughed, so yes I told her some more jokes as my friend Todd shook his head. Coffee and friends are a good combination.

Friendship with Jesus is something that still amazes me. The fact that Jesus wants friendship with us, with me, is such a blessing. Jesus talked about it in John 15:12-15.
“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.”

The greater love Jesus spoke of, laying down one’s life, is exactly what he did for us. He willingly laid down his life when he died on the cross for us, for our sins, so we could be forgiven and receive relationship with God.
The condition to be Jesus’s friend- love one another. We never do that perfectly, but because he laid down his life for us, when we fail at loving one another, it is forgiven. However, loving one another is what Jesus wants us to do. Jesus does not merely give the command, he empowers us through the Holy Spirit to do so.
Friendship with Jesus is a tremendous blessing. But I wonder what it would be like to go to a coffee shop with Jesus.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
