First week of our classes being in our new location is in the books. The new location is quieter since it is not downtown. It is also quieter in the classrooms since it is actual classroom space not thin walls put into a former mall. I discovered the Keurig coffee maker made it to our new location, so that is comforting. 🙂

But I do miss some things about being in the old location because it was downtown. There are some ethnic restaurants downtown that I like. One has a weekly Gyro Tuesday special where I would get a Gyro Bowl. There is also a nice coffee shop downtown I would go to sometimes that has a sports radio broadcast playing.

My main concern is not about the location. My main concern is what will happen to the program overall. Due to the new Federal Budget, budget cuts were made to education. The cuts affect Adult Education which include English Second Language. GED, which helps people get a high school diploma, is also included. This is my 25th year of teaching in the program, so seeing the cuts is so sad.

Changes happened so quickly that it makes me grateful that Jesus never changes. This school year will be one of trusting Jesus more as I adapt to changes and trust him for provision. The cuts have not reduced the need for helping people learn and sharing the love of Jesus.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. So many “programs” are in a bind with probably more to come. In this great country where we are living off our grandkids money, it’s sad we as a nation don’t realize how broke we are fiscally, spiritually, relationally, and in so many ways. It seems to take storm and flood devastation to bring people together. Our “fixing” all this brokenness is painful and temporary and often wrong..sigh. God has paid the price for our spiritual devastation. He is never wrong…I am so glad He never changes.

    1. I am glad God never changes too

  2. It seems most are in favor of shrinking government, but I wonder if they will still feel that way when the consequences hit them or their families and friends? The Bible is clear that Christians should take care of others, especially the most vulnerable. God will judge us if we do not.

    1. I understand the need to shrink government but also think there are better ways to do it.

      1. Agreed. People are more important than principles.

  3. I’m sure you will discover some new favorite restatuate in your new location.
