Yesterday afternoon was just what I needed. The video of the beautiful young Ukrainian woman being killed on the train struck me not only because of the brutality and the indifference of those sitting close by, but also because it caused me to think of the young women I know personally at New Breath the Ukrainian church I minister with.

So back to yesterday afternoon. The paternal side of me came out as I talked with many of the young women about being safe explaining things like if you go for a walk don’t wear earphones/earplugs so you can be aware of your surroundings. If you need to put gas in your car, lock your cardoor as soon as you get out with your wallet with you so no one can enter your car. Was I perhaps overreacting a bit? Probably but I felt the need to make sure.

One thing that came up was a 15 year old girl likes to go for walks alone. We had a talk about that ending with me asking her to promise me she would not do that.

So connecting with my young friends, sharing safety tips, expressing my concern that they be wise, I left feeling better. They probably left thinking I was silly, but that does not concern me. Their safety concerns me. I slept better. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. It shows your love and care towards them and I am sure they could see that.

  2. I agree with Manu, above. Knowing that you are concerned for them may pay dividends in other ways too. You may be the one they come to for advice, Matt, because you’ve shown you care.

    1. I would love to be there for them

  3. Amen 🙏🏽 it demonstrates your care and love for them

  4. Bless you for caring, Matt! I’m sure your friends are very thankful for how you care for them.

  5. Young women need to be taught safety tips. I know this for sure. Blessings, Matt!

    1. Sadly that is true. When Jesus comes back, there women will always be safe

  6. You did not overreact at all. This was one of the most heartbreaking video I’ve watched. When I saw the clippings, I searched till I found the video. And I was glad I did. It hurt my heart to see the fear, confusion and question on this young woman’s face before she died. I still tear up just thinking about it. Women need to protect themselves as much as they can whenever they go out. And being aware of our surroundings is also key, in this quickly and ever changing words. Thanks for sharing.

    1. It was heart wrenching what happened to her and the indiffernce of those around who did nothing to try to help her.

  7. Sometimes a guy will put something in a girl’s drink so they can rape her. This actually happens a lot. So she must never leave her drink unattended, even if she thinks the man can be trusted. I know of someone who had this done to her more than once. It’s just so easy to do.

  8. You definitely did not overreact. Thank you for all you do to help others and especially tips on staying safe.

    1. Thank you Tangie. I think of the young ones at New Breath as my children
