A fellow blogger had me pegged when he left a comment on a humorous post I had titled- If I Had My Own Coffee Shop. Fellow blogger Gary of garyfultz.com shared his observation of me in a comment. He said I would need a business manager because I would give every thing away.

I am realizing how true those words were in regards to my book Jesus Understands Trauma. I try to keep a copy of it with me to show people but end up ordering another copy because I give the one I have with me away.

On Wednesday evening, I met a man at the coffee shop and struck up a conversation. I found out he is a Christian who goes to the same church the counseling pastor I had lunch with on Tuesday is on staff with. As we talked, I found out my new friend has been getting counseling for Complex PTSD due to childhood trauma. So I gave him a copy of my book and wrote a blessing in it for him.

Yesterday I met a visiting pastor from Kiev Ukraine. He is only visiting for a few weeks and will return to Kiev. So I gave him a copy and wrote a blessing in it for him.

I don’t regret doing this at all. My prayer has been along the lines of Isaiah 61:1

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives

It would be nice to sell books, but knowing the brokenhearted are being ministered to is on my heart.

I know what it feels like to be one of the brokenhearted but also to receive the comfort God blesses us with. So my heart is also to fulfill 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

So I will continue to keep a copy with me in case Jesus arranges divine appointments for me.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Amen, Matt. I’m glad God gives you opportunities to share both your faith and book with those in need.

    1. Thank you 🙏 David. It is a blessing. How is the life of a new admin?

      1. Administration is going well, Matt. One more week (4 days) of summer camp, and then I get two weeks off.

      2. A whole two weeks 🙂
I have three so not much better 🙂

  2. That’s a beautiful practice. God sees your heart. ❤️

  3. Matt, what a precious way to share how God has been your healer for trauma. Your book will continue to bless those who most need it. A way to multiply yourself, with each book you give away! 😍☕️📔

    1. It is a blessing to comfort others with the comfort we receive 🙂

  4. Now you need a “Go Fund Me” page just to buy your own books to give away Matt.
I have often thought certain books that minister to a specific need should be on hand for every church to give away.

    1. hmm now you have me thinking
I agree having books on hand for people is a great idea

  5. Good idea!!
Glad you are noticing and pursuing those little God promptings to share your book with others you encounter.❤️

    1. Thank you little sister. Did you enjoy the storms out there yesterday?

      1. We didn’t have any in our area, but I do love a good storm!! Have you guys had a lot of rain this year?

      2. We haven’t had enough rain so we are in a drought here

      3. We were like that last year.. and it is really lightening up here so it’s getting drier here again

      4. Were the deer, antelope and buffalo okay last year?

      5. Lol Oh I think some of em struggled quite a bit…especially the deer, the population in this area was way down, they must’ve moved to where they could find more water and greener vegetation.

      6. How about your coyote friends?

      7. Haven’t heard those fellas lately!

      8. Do you miss them? lol

      9. How the mountain lions? are they ok?

      10. Lol I’ve never seen one but I’ve heard stories!!

      11. If you see one, don’t say here kitty kitty

  6. Awesome you are able to give the book to those in need.

    1. It is a blessing 🙂
      How are you little sister?

      1. Doing well! Looking forward to a trip to Costa Rica soon. Do you have any students from there?

      2. No students from there. How long will you be there?

      3. By the way, I’m enjoying your book so far.

      4. Thank you 🙂
Will you go scuba diving in Costa Rica?

      5. Since I can’t swim, no lol

      6. Please remember don’t try to hug crocodiles 🐊 lol

  7. I think those of us that write for the Lord do give away our books more often. It’s all for His Glory. I have 14 books and it’s nice to get royalties but it’s even better when you know God has you help set the captives free when you give them away. Blessings to you!
