Rare double post day today, but I read about something that filled me with righteous indignation. I not only read about it, but watched the video to make sure it was accurately reported.

I read about one of those television evangelists, Jesse Duplantis,  telling his supporters that God wants him to have another private Jet saying:

“Now, some people believe that preachers shouldn’t have jets,” Duplantis said, “I really believe that preachers ought to … have every available outlet to get this Gospel preached to the world. If Jesus was physically on the Earth today, he wouldn’t be riding a donkey. He’d be in an airplane preaching the Gospel all over the world,” Direct quote from his video I watched for myself.

This angers me for so many reasons. 1st of all, Jesus lived a humble life when he was on earth saying things like,“Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

It seems ironic that Duplantis would say Jesus would ride no donkey if he were here today. Well, when Jesus came into Jerusalem on Palms Sunday with the people shouting Hosanna, he was on a donkey’s colt. Jesus could have arranged to be on a chariot or some sort of royal carriage, but he humbly came in on a donkey’s colt.

If one were to compare Duplantis’s ministry with say someone like Billy Graham’s ministry, there is no comparison for scope of ministry, fruit from ministry and especially integrity. Billy Graham flew on commercial airlines and the furniture in his world headquarters was budget line. I know because I worked there and had sold office furniture before I left for school in Minneapolis and worked there.

Yes, the Pope flies on a private jet. I am not Catholic, but really need to point out something. The Pope does not own the jet. It belongs to the Vatican and whoever is Pope flies on it because the Pope is Head of State for the Vatican. The Vatican is actually its own country separate from Rome and Italy even though it is in Rome. So when the Pope flies, he flies as Head of State.

Television evangelists bilking people out of money for their own gain bothers me because they misrepresent Jesus, teach false things, and take advantage of people some of whom are desperate for a miracle and if they don’t get the miracle they are told they did not have enough faith and to send in a seed-money.

Jesus warned about such false teachers saying- ““Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

If only one person reads this and it causes them to rethink supporting false teachers such as Duplantis and others, then this post will be worth it. If you ever wonder if you should support a ministry, look to see who they are accountable to.

One hugely sad thought for me is when I think of the millions or perhaps billions of dollars that people send into to false teachers/television evangelists, and what that money could have done if it had gone to ministries that fight sex trafficking like Love Justice, or that come in to help in disasters like Samaritans Purse, or gone to hospitals, schools, after school programs, it leaves me at a loss for words and feeling sadly disappointed over how much good could have been done.

  2. All I can say is AMEN, too! You are so right that too many TV evangelists are being led astray and consumed by greed😠—it just fuels the belief that all Christians are hypocrites.

    1. Thanks Mia. God Bless 🙂
