I often wonder what the back story is to a song and where the inspiration for the song come from. The song Blessings by Laura Story is a beautifully gentle song that causes me to think each time I hear it. I mean with lyrics like:
“Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise”
it seems obvious the person who wrote the song has lived through some adversity. Those are the kind of people who really get my attention because my life has been one of continual adversity. I can’t recall a time that things were easy for me even as a Christian serving Jesus. In fact when I began to serve Jesus, the adversity intensified. For example I have faced two major health problems since dedicating my life to him.
Jesus never promised us an easy road following him. Jesus said things like:
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus promised to be with us always. He promised to be with us in the midst of difficulties in this life. Whatever circumstance we are faced with, we can trust Jesus to be with us and to be working through the circumstance. As I write this, I think about many of the bloggers I follow who have inspired me with their willingness to live for Jesus in the midst of their trial.
So last night as I was listening to worship music on youtube, I stumbled on a live version of Blessings being sung by Laura Story in a church. She did not just sing. She shared her testimony of the hardship she and her husband have been facing. I won’t give it away in case like me you did not know her real life story. My hope is that it is as meaningful for you as it was for me.
Thank you for reading. God Bless 🙂
