Choices- Which Path?

A new blogger I enjoy following is ktjennks. She calls her blog Glorious Ruins. In her blog she shares about how Jesus transformed her life when she encountered him by freeing her from chains in the life of addiction, abuse etc.

Issues can become intertwined in our lives especially dealing with addiction or alcohol issues. I remember visiting open AA meetings with my father when he was still alive. In the book they read, The Big Book, it says the bottles are symptoms. Addiction and alcoholism are symptoms of something going on inside. Sometimes it is self medicating to escape pain such as the pain of being in an abusive relationship, the pain of growing up in a messed up family etc. Drinking and or using drugs can also be a form of self medicating for people with other issues such as depression, anxiety,  OCD, etc.

No one wakes up one morning and decides to become an alcoholic or drug addict. One choice leads to another choice and another, another and before we know it, we are trapped in it. We are chained down by it.

Jesus said in John 10:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Darkness wants to trap us down to destroy us, but Jesus gives life. Jesus frees people from the chains. It can start with calling out to him. It can start with simple steps of asking for help, confiding in a pastor, going to Jesus in prayer. He already knows everything about us and still loves us, so no reason to try to hide.

Just as wrong choices can lead us to ruined lives, making good choices can lift us up out of the problem. A first step of asking Jesus to help can lead to a series of events that free us from the trap.

ktjenkins found that freedom when she encountered Jesus. She shares about it in her blog at

If you are struggling with addiction, alcohol, an abusive situation, depression, anxiety, or eating disorder, please take the step of asking Jesus for help and seeking help. It is never too late.

We can choose to change our path. With Jesus it is never too late.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
